Bio//
My name is Mahonia, but most people online know me as of "Azaria". I also go by "WhitePhoenixsGirl" and "Dreamwalker". The origin of these names will be explained later. During my life, I have been asked what my birth name means almost as many times as people have asked me how you spell it. The most common questions I get dished are: 'What nationality is it?' and/or 'Is it Hawaiian?' For all of you that are interested... “Mahonia” is the botanical name for the Oregon Grape. The Oregon Grape is the state flower of Oregon. Looks a lot like holly, but for the most part it grows much closer to the ground. It has yellow flowers, and blue berries. I was named “Mahonia” because I was born in Oregon and also, because my parents didn't want to name me something simple or very common like Lily, or Daisy, or Rose.

I was born in Portland, Oregon and I now live in Western Washington. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life. I love it here and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I live in a house that has an amazing view of the Cascade Mountains. The only other country I visited is Canada, though I dream about visiting Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, France, and England. I hate hot weather. I would choose to go to the mountains, forest or ocean rather than the big city, if I had the choice. I am shy and a loner. I prefer one-on-one verses large crowds.

On my bedroom wall, I have two wolf posters, three anime wall scrolls (two Weiβ Kreuz and one Cowboy Bebop), a corner dedicated to Orlando Bloom that my sister and I put together, a Orlando Bloom calendar that my sister brought me from the England.

I love taking photographs and I consider myself a pretty good photographer. I hate it when people think they are photographers just because they know how to make the camera capture an image. In my opinion, too many people think this way. I fought against digital photography for the longest time believing it was a bad idea not developing film. Once I realized even the professionals use digital, I gave it a chance. Now I love digital photography it offers so much that film cannot. My photography idol is Art Wolfe, a fellow North westerner and truly gifted artist. I have several of his books and I have been to one of his lectures.

I am a writer. I am currently working on several fiction stories. My favorite thing about writing is creating characters and their pasts. I have become rather obsessed with my current characters in one of my stories. My dream guy, "Cross", lives in one of my stories and I wish so deeply that he was real. Yes, I am a nut. *rotfl* Maybe one day, hopefully when I get I hope to get published, you will get to meet him, too...if you care to. The aliases I go by are actually plays off of the societies I have created in my stories. "Dreamwalker" is a term used for a person who is hard-core gamer who downloads "Dreams" (games) into their brain, enters the Dreams and preforms whatever the Dreams goals are. "WhitePhoenixsGirl" is basically what I call myself since I am the creator of "White Phoenix", a talented squad of art and jewelry thieves. They also live in one of my stories. And "Azaria", my most well known alias, is actually the female version of a male character's name, a member of White Phoenix.

I am a web designer; I have since 1998. I have owned six different websites. I joined my first website competition in late '98 or early '99. The Webrawls (who are no longer) recruited me. On and off, I bounced between competitions...The Webrawls, The Fantasy Fights, The Site Wars, and The Wizard's Quest...I took a long break after that, I got tired of competing. Then a visitor to my personal site, brought me back into the fights after nearly a year of absence. She didn't last long in the fights, but I remained on. I was with TWQ until they closed in the middle of 2002 due to ugly circumstances. I then went directly to The Golden Elite and won the finals and retired from there until the championship, but then they closed for a couple of years and I never got to compete in it. *sigh* I am now a member of The Battle of the Ancients, Sirkissa's Magick Karnival and Heart-n-Soul. Mostly I just compete there as a way to bring my site exposure. Though I would love to win another competition just to say "Hey, look at this cool site!". *rotfl* But with how the competiting world has evolved (you have to be on MANY VE boards to win), I just don't have the energy or motivation to make a serious drive for the win.

I am a music junkie with certain genres. Some people consider my tastes in music very “unique”. I mostly listen to electronic and rock music. I am an electronic junkie ever since I first discovered Aura (through mp3.com). I am an iPod junkie. Ever since I first discovered the iPod, I have come to hate burning CDs, however I have a very large CD collection.

I love anime, though I do not remember when I got so captivated by it. I do however remember my first anime…Princess Mononoke. Little did I know at the time that anime’s can be really violent. I thought all anime was similar to Pokemon. The first series I ever really loved was Cowboy Bebop and I still love it. I own the entire series on DVD and the movie (Knocking on Heaven's Door). Though I do love FullMetal Alchemist, Samurai Champloo and InuYasha...in my opinion, Cowboy Bebop is by far the best anime ever. Period. It was the first series I ever considered, and did purchase the soundtrack for.

I am a PlayStation junkie. I use the word "junkie" because that's what I believe I am. Some games get me so involved within them, I cannot pull away, and when I do, I find myself unable to concentrate on anything else and craving my next "fix". I first discovered gaming world during the Fourth of July weekend in 1993. My cousins’ had just purchased a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and had rented out several games from the local video store. (Sadly) I spent a good portion of that weekend playing games when I should have been socializing with my relatives. I received my first gaming system—the SNES—Christmas of that year. It became a hobby right off, but it truly didn’t become any obsession until the first Legend of Zelda game came out for Nintendo 64. Three years ago, I complained because Nintendo’s games were too easy, though I really liked the LoZ games, but as a whole most of the games had become too easy for me. After much debate I decided to trade in my N64 for a PlayStation 2. At the time, I was very curious about this system…I had only ever played Nintendo, and a little Sega. I bought the PS2 and one game—SSX. I also rented Chrono Cross. Gaming is not a cheap hobby so you have to go easy on it. The new games are $50 a hit. I got home hooked up my PS2 stuck SSX in and I don’t think I finally turned it off until my parents dragged me out of the room. Yes, after that gaming did become an obsession. Why? Because I discovered the Final Fantasy series. I actually finished X before all the others and May 2003, I finally completed my first purchased FF game…VIII. You want to know how obsessive a gamer I am? I had to purchase another PS2 because my first one of two years wore out! Now, I will forever wonder why it took me that long to even look in PS direction. Though, I wish I had considered hanging on to my SNES and N64 and a few of their games, such as Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Kart (SNES and N64), and Super Mario World 2. Sadly, I traded all my Nintendo games and systems in for a few extra credits towards my PS games.

I am a Seattle Mariners fan. Since Portland didn’t have a major league team, I never really paid attention to baseball, but in 1995 after I had lived in Western Washington for five years, my dad turned me onto the Mariners during their first playoff run. After that I was hooked. I have over two hundred photographs taken at the ballparks (spring training complex, the Kingdome and Safeco Field). I was attended the last game at the Kingdome. I’ve been to spring training twice. I have nine signatures.

I am a big fan of extreme sports. I love watching the XGames, I hope to one day attend one. How I got so engrossed by it? Well, I bought a video game called “Freekstyle” (EA BIG), not my favorite game in the world... It was basically SSX with motorbikes. Anyway, the characters were quite interesting. Later, I heard a couple of the names mentioned while I was flipping channels on my TV and realized that they were actually real-life athletes! Yeah, I know...I was clueless... So after watching my first XGame, I’ve been hooked ever since. Though crazy, these athletes are some of the best in the world and I love watching each sport progress.
